2011 USPGA Championship
The 93rd USPGA Championship was held on the Highlands Course at Atlanta Athletic Club for the third time in its history and was held from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th August. It was won in exciting fashion as Keegan Bradley landed his first major title as he beat Jason Dufner in a three-hole play-off.
Steve Stricker was the early pacesetter as he went seven under thanks to an opening round 63, which was just a shot away from setting a new record major championship round of 62. Jerry Kelly and Shaun Michael were two and three shots back respectively, although Tiger Woods was well off the pace after firing a seven over 77.
Steve Stricker fell away badly on the second day as he ended proceedings three under par after a round of 74, with Keegan Bradley and Jason Dufner showing their intentions. Bradley went round in 64 and Dufner in 65 as they shared the half-way lead at five under par.
Dufner remained at the head of the leaderboard at the close of day three as he shared the lead at seven under par with Brendan Steele. Bradley remained in the mix just a shot back after he notched a 69.
Steele had a poor final round as he shot a 77 to end in a tie for 19th, although Bradley and Dufner maintained their respective title challenges. Bradley carded a 68 to finish eight under par and claim the clubhouse lead but Dufner held his nerve to tap in at the 18th and force a play-off.
Bradley and Dufner went on to a three hole aggregate play-off on the 16h, 17th and 18th holes. Bradley went 3, 3, 4 to finish one under and beat Dufner by a shot as the latter could only go 4, 4, 3. Bradley's win was all the more remarkable as he became the first player to win in his major debut since Ben Curtis won the 2003 British Open.
