2012 USPGA Championship
The 94th USPGA Championship was held on the Oceans Course at Kiawah Island in South Carolina and was held from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th August. It was won in overwhelming fashion by Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy by eight strokes to land his second major championship.
Sweden's Carl Pettersson carded a first round 66 to leads the field by one shot on day one. McIlroy was in a group of four players tied for second place on five under par, including fellow Europeans Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Alexander Noren. Reigning champion Keegan Bradley was a shot further back on -4 alongside the likes of John Daly, Adam Scott and Graeme McDowell.
Pettersson maintained his lead on day two of the Championships but high gusting winds made scoring tough and his two over par total of 74 left him tied for the lead on -4 alongside Vijay Singh and Tiger Woods. England's Ian Poulter managed to card a one under round of 71 to be fourth on his own, one shot ahead of McIlroy and Welshman Jamie Donaldson who tied for fifth place at the halfway stage.
McIlroy made his move in round three, a weather delayed day which was eventually concluded on Sunday morning. McIlroy shot a 67 to move to -7 and lead the field by three shots going into the final round. Carl Pettersson remained in second place, with Adam Scott a shot further back and Woods five off the pace.
Rory McIlroy saved the best till last as he carded his lowest round of the week on the Sunday, a 66 to leave him on thirteen under par, eight shots clear of England's David Lynn who finished second, with Keegan Bradley, Carl Pettersson, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose a shot further back tied for third.
