2014 US Masters
The 2014 US Masters was the 78th renewal of this tournament and the first major of the year was once again held at the famous Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. The tournament took place from 10th to the 13th April and it was Bubba Watson who took victory by three shots from Jonas Blixt.
There was no Tiger Woods in the field after he withdrew but there was still plenty of class and an illustrious trio of Louis Oosthuizen, Adam Scott and Bubba Watson all shared second place after firing rounds of 69. Bill Haas was an unlikely first round leader though as he went round with a four under par 68.
Watson let the rest of the field back in on day three though as his round of 74 opened the door for Jordan Spieth and the pair led the Championship at five under par after three days.
A third round level par round of 70 enabled Phil Mickelson to take a one shot lead with him into the final round. The American topped the leaderboard at the end of the day on Saturday on one under par, one shot clear of chasing trio of Mahan, Schwartzel and Stricker. A further shot back were Luke Donald and Justin Rose on one over par whilst Jason Day was still in the mix on two over par.
Watson turned things around on the final day though as he shot a brilliant 69to win the Masters at Augusta for the second time in three years, although Spieth could only score 72 and he eventually had to settle for a tie for second with Jonas Blixt, who was the only player to post four sub-par totals during the tournament.
