Three time British Open winner Tiger Woods arrives at the Open Championships with a severe lack of match practise as he attempts to recover from the personal problems he encountered in 2010 and the injury troubles that have held him back in 2011. Nonetheless he comes to Royal St George's for the second time to play in the Open Championship, having finished tied fourth in 2003.
It is a pity that his 2011 has been blighted by injury as there had been some bright spots that suggested the 14 time major winner was returning to his very best after a difficult two years. It has in fact been more than two years since Woods last won an event, which seems remarkable considering passing Jack Nicklaus's record of 18 majors seemed a formality not so long ago.
Former world number one Woods is now 17th in the world rankings due to his time off and he will be keen to get back amongst it and prove himself alongside the likes of Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood.
During 2011, Woods has picked up several top 25 finishes and most encouraging was his tied fourth at the US Masters at Augusta. However, injury at the Players Championship forced him to withdraw and he has since had to miss the US Open.
Woods still remains popular in the British Open betting this year though and if anything these year's odds are the most attractive they have ever been. He may have endured a long lay off but he can never be ruled out thanks to his major winning experience and ability......
